How to make a URL QR code

  1. Open the page you want people to reach on your phone and copy the address from the browser bar.
  2. Paste it into the Website URL field. If you leave out https://, it is added for you.
  3. Pick colors or a template. Keep the code dark on a light background; the preview warns you if contrast drops too low.
  4. Scan the preview with your phone camera and make sure it opens the right page, not a login screen or a desktop-only view.
  5. Download SVG for print or PNG (1024 px or larger) for documents and slides.

What to put in the field

Website URL
The full address, for example https://example.com/spring-menu. Paths and query strings are kept exactly as typed, so campaign tags like ?utm_source=poster work.
Short vs long links
Shorter links make a less dense code that scans from further away. A link of under 60 characters prints comfortably at 2 × 2 cm; very long tracking links need a larger print.

Where URL QR codes work well

Posters and shop windows

Link to an event page or a booking form. People scan from 1–2 m away, so print the code at least 15–20 cm wide.

Product packaging

Send buyers to setup videos or a manual. Use a link you control (your own domain) so you can update the page without reprinting.

Printed reports and slides

Point readers to the source data or a longer version. A 3 cm code in the corner of a page is enough at reading distance.

Business cards

Link to a portfolio or booking page. If you want people to save your phone and email, a vCard QR code is a better fit.

Things to know before printing

  • A static code cannot be changed after printing. If the page moves, the printed code breaks, so link to an address you expect to keep.
  • Link shorteners add a dependency: if the shortening service closes or deletes the link, every printed code stops working.
  • Check that the page works on mobile. Most people scan with a phone, and a desktop-only page loses them.
  • Use https. Some phone cameras show a warning or refuse to open plain http links.

Questions people ask

Can I change where the code points after I print it?

No. The address is part of the pattern. To keep flexibility, print a code that points to a page on your own site and change that page’s content later.

Will tracking parameters still work?

Yes. Everything after the ? in your link is encoded as typed, so analytics tools on your site will see the UTM tags when someone scans.

Why is my code so dense?

Long links create more modules. Remove unnecessary parameters, or use a shorter path on your own domain.
